Oscar Saxelby-Lee has touched the hearts of the masses as the public rush to support the 5 year Leukaemia suffer. With both public and those with higher profiles urging everyone to donate and share his story, the fundraiser has now had one of the fastest starts on record at Virgin Money Giving. The journey started just 10 days ago with the news of Oscar needing lifesaving treatment in just weeks. A huge £250,000 has been raised, with £250,000 to go and only 4 weeks to fundraise the remaining amount and get Oscar the treatment he so desperately needs. Failing reaching the £500,000 target, Oscar is expected to have no other option than palliative care.
In December 2018, Oscar was diagnosed with high risk T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia and in May 2019 a search for a donor started. This resulted in thousands of people across the UK – including strangers – signing up to a register in a bid to help. The family were so grateful when Oscar received a transplant and hoping the nightmare would end. Following the procedure, Oscar’s wish came true and we were told he was cancer free – but the dream did not last long and in September 2019 Oscar and his family were devastated to learn that the leukaemia had returned. They have since been appealing for fundraising to get Oscar treatment that the NHS cannot fund. Oscar now needs urgent life-saving treatment in the form of either a second transplant (outside of the NHS) or an overseas treatment called CAR-T, which would mean travelling to Singapore.
