A glittering ball to raise money for a Worcester based charity which provides vital care for local children and families has raised an incredible £19,100.

Acorns Children’s Hospice held a glamorous Summer Ball last Saturday 16 June as part of a series of events to mark the charity’s 30th anniversary celebrations.  The Ball was organised by a group of dedicated volunteers and staff from the Three Counties Hospice.

More than 260 guests attended the black tie evening at Stanbrook Abbey, which was held to raise money for Acorns towards the charity’s care for life limited and life threatened children, and support for their families.

Acorns President Kay Alexander MBE welcomed guests who enjoyed a raffle, live auction, silent auction as well as a whole host of entertainment, from live music and a photo booth to singing waiters and a disco.

Katreena Barnes, Volunteers Manager for Acorns, said: “We’re thrilled that so many people were able to attend this fantastic event, and give so generously to Acorns. What an incredible amount!

“We’re currently caring for over 800 children and supporting more than 1,000 families, including those who are bereaved, so the money raised at events like the Summer Ball is crucial for us to continue our work.”

Acorns provides specialist palliative care to life limited and life threatened children and young people at its three hospices, Acorns for the Three Counties, in Bath Road, Acorns in Birmingham and Acorns in the Black Country.

It costs nearly £10 million a year to run Acorns services and the charity relies heavily on the generosity of the community and local businesses for the majority of this amount.
