This week, our Upper Fourth Form (Year 8) pupils had the chance to work together and create their own chocolate brands during an “Inspiring Futures” workshop, as part of their PSHE curriculum.
Our dedicated Careers Department organised the event over a period of two days in order to give all pupils in the year the chance to participate. Pupils were divided into small groups and the first challenge for them was to assign roles within their business. Interesting debate followed in many teams and in one case the role of Managing Director came down to who possessed a watch!
After this, the Purchasing Manager “bought” the materials to create their packaging, the Finance Manager calculated the profit margin, the marketing team designed the posters and branding and the Managing Director prepared the presentation for the end of the session, with the help of all the team members.
Once the products had been put together an “Apprentice” style presentation was given in front of the other teams and a small panel of judges. The judges were asked to give feedback to each of the teams and all pupils produced some excellent and very creative work. It was a pleasure to see how professional all the pupils were and how confidently their presentations were delivered in front of their peers.
