It’s the date of the most talked about wedding of the year and The Emirates FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Manchester United, but 19th May is also the date when two members of the Abraxas team will abseil from the roof of the Hampton by Hilton Hotel in Birmingham, in support of Midlands Air Ambulance.

Keen Abraxas Catering Equipment employees, Wendy Woodward and Tony White who are based at the company’s offices in Kidderminster are preparing themselves for the challenging 240ft abseil from the roof of Birmingham’s Hampton by Hilton Hotel this coming Saturday. Since 1991, The Midlands Air Ambulance Charity has responded to more than 49,000 missions averaging 2,000 per year, making it one of the longest established and busiest air ambulance organisations in the UK.  The charity work hard to deliver the very best air ambulance care to patients across Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Worcestershire and the West Midlands. Operating from strategically located regional airbases, 90 per cent of the region is within reach within eight minutes. The charity’s three aircraft each carry a crew comprising pilot, two paramedics or flight doctors plus full life-support medical equipment.

Wendy Woodward, Director of Abraxas Catering Equipment explains why she decided to abseil for MAAC, “You just never know when you might need the support of the air ambulance. With each mission costing around £2,500, the charity need to raise a staggering £9 million each year to keep its three air ambulances operational. MAAC relies on the support and generous donations gifted from individuals and businesses, and as a team, Abraxas felt the charity worthy of our fundraising efforts this year.” She adds, “I’ve always loved a challenge, and I enjoy pushing myself to accomplish new things. Having never completed an abseil and with it featuring on my personal ‘bucket list’ it would have been rude to turn down the opportunity! We invite anyone not planning to watch the royal wedding on TV to come down and cheer us on!”
