Acorns Children’s Hospice has welcomed a visit from the Government’s new Culture Secretary in one of the MP’s first official visits in his new role.

Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, the Rt. Hon Jeremy Wright QC MP, visited Acorns for the Three Counties, based in Worcester to meet staff and volunteers and to have a tour of the specialist facilities and extensive gardens by Head Nurse, Gilda Davis and Acorns Chief Executive, Toby Porter.

Toby Porter, said: “We were honoured to welcome Jeremy to Acorns to see first-hand the work we do. We were impressed with the great care Jeremy took to understand, not just the importance of the specialist palliative care we provide to our local communities, but also some of the challenges facing Acorns and other hospices in the region.

“Currently 24 children and their families from Jeremy’s Kenilworth and Southam constituency are accessing Acorns care, so we were particularly pleased to be given the opportunity to share with him the various ways we support and care for those families.”

Acorns for the Three Counties, based in the Bath Road, opened in 2005 and provides specialist palliative care to life limited and life threatened children and support for their families across the Three Counties and South Warwickshire.

Jeremy Wright MP said: “Acorns makes a huge difference to many lives and it was a pleasure to meet some of those who do so much to achieve that.”

In the past year Acorns has provided care to over 870 children and more than 1,090 families, including those who are bereaved.

It costs Acorns nearly £10 million each year to provide its services and it relies on the generosity of the public for the majority of this amount.
