The children at RGS Springfield have been busy fundraising and their efforts have been rewarded with a total of over £7000 over the last two years in a school with only 150 pupils.

Charitable events have ranged from a Superhero Fun Run to sponsoring animals and running mini marathons. Other charities include the ‘Send A Cow’ initiative that helps to feed families in Africa, ‘Toilet Twinning’ which improves sanitation in Asia, Operation Christmas Child which received 57 shoeboxes from Springfield and Dogs for Disabled for which the school raised £1,300.

Katy Marsh, aged ten, took the initiative to create her own word search and sold them to fellow pupils and spectators at RGS Springfield’s Sports Day, raising money for the Children’s Liver Disease Charity.

Sian Gaynor-Smith also aged ten, enjoys raising money at the school with her most recent venture involving “Guess the Sweeties” and selling Christmas cards in aid of Save the Children’s Ebola Appeal.

The students’ efforts have contributed to the grand fundraising total and Mrs Brown, Headmistress, says: “I am always very proud of their achievements in raising money for charity”.

One RGS Springfield pupil talked about why they like raising money for charity: “Instead of just giving money to charity, we like to do fun events instead” and another said: “We like it because we can give money to other people who might need it”.

However, it is not just the pupils that have been raising money for charity. The catering staff at RGS Springfield baked and sold biscuits in support of Children in Need and school secretary, Chris Nutter, has set herself the target of completing twelve half marathons in twelve months in aid of WellChild after her daughter suffered with a rare chronic blood disorder aged nine.  The last one is in Malta later this month.

The pupils and staff at RGS Springfield continue to come up with creative ways to fundraise and are currently choosing their charities for the upcoming months. If you would like to donate to WellChild you can visit Chris Nutter’s JustGiving page:

RSG Springfield are holding an Open Day this Saturday at 9.30am – 12.30pm where all are welcome to visit this school with a Big Heart.
