This year we want to take positive action to promote Worcester’s independent business community, and we’d like to know what you think of our plans.

Proposals for the Worcester Loyalty Card would see a wide range of local independent businesses joining together to drive customers back into our independent shops.

By joining forces, each business will be able to reach a greater number and a wider variety of potential new customers than by promoting themselves alone. What’s more, by joining together to reward customers, each business gives a little but the customer gets a lot, therefore encouraging them to support our local businesses again and again.

The scheme has been running for almost 3 years in Malvern, where over 70 businesses have joined together and there are over 5000 individual cardholders.

This summer we are hoping to bring the scheme to Worcester and are looking for forward-thinking businesses to help us get the project off the ground.

In practice the scheme is very simple. Customers pick up a Worcester Loyalty Card at any participating retailer and can then collect points as they shop at independent businesses across the city. Points equate to Worcester Loyalty Card vouchers, which can be spent at any participating retailer. The retailer is reimbursed for the voucher so that the maximum possible money is recycled back into the local economy.
