A local freestyle kayak athlete from Malvern has just returned home from an incredible two weeks competing at the 2019 ICF World Championships with her head held high.

Emma Witherford, the 21-year-old University of Nottingham student who trains daily in freestyle kayaking alongside working towards a degree in Biology has done herself and her country proud, achieving 12thplace in the global competition.

For the second year running, Payara Services Ltd has pledged its support to Emma. After helping her achieve 7thplace in 2018’s European Championships, the Worcester based tech firm has provided funds once again, allowing her to compete in the Senior GB Squad for the first time this year.

Headquartered at the Malvern Science Park in Worcestershire, open source software specialists Payara Services Ltd successfully service over 50 customers globally.

Emma commented: “I am incredibly excited to have competed at the ICF World Championships, especially in the Senior GB Squad, and to have achieved my goal of a top 20 position, doing both my country, Malvern and, of course, Payara proud.”

“I am extremely grateful to Payara for providing me with sponsorship once again. Without their support I would have struggled to fund both the travel and kit required to compete overseas. I am delighted that they agreed to support me for the second year running.”

Through its international team of almost 30 members, the firm are dedicated to extending their support to the local community.

Committed to local initiatives, Payara was Emma’s main sponsor for this event, pledging £500 to aid her in achieving her goals.

Julia Millidge, HR Manager at Payara Services Ltdadded: “At Payara we work incredibly hard to build an inclusive and supportive culture, which extends beyond our growing team to the local Worcestershire community. We were incredibly proud of Emma’s achievements in 2018 and were delighted to be asked to sponsor her again as she tackled the ICF World Championships as part of the Senior GB Squad.”
