Over 80 young dancers aged 5 to 21 will be coming to Artrix’s stage this month, bringing some of the best youth dance in the region.

Accelerate is an evening of work created and performed by talented dancers from West Midlands-based youth dance companies, and is produced by Dancefest as part of its youth dance programme.

Taking part this year are ACE dance and music from Birmingham, a nationally and internationally recognised leader in the field of Contemporary African and Caribbean dance.

They’ll be joined by students from DanceXchange’s CADT – Dance Generation, a high-quality training programme in Contemporary dance for young dancers in the West Midlands, and Translucent Dance Company, Artrix’s resident company, which tours locally and nationally.

Also performing are Worcester DFY (Dancefest Youth), a performance group for 14 to 18 year olds that develops dancers’ technique and performance skills, and Dancefest’s Elevate Youth Dance Company, based in Hereford, for technically strong, creative dancers.

Clare Wood, who manages Dancefest’s youth dance programme says:

“The companies create polished, powerful and innovative performances, so for audiences it’s a chance to see high quality dance and professional dance artists of the future. It’s also an opportunity for dancers to watch and be inspired by each other in a non-competitive, supportive environment, and for people studying dance at school or college to aspire to achieve more.”

“It’s been great to watch the development of young dancers, and many previous Accelerate performers have gone on to train at degree level and now work as professional dancers and choreographers.”

Accelerate takes place at 7.30pm on Saturday 14 July at Artrix, Bromsgrove. Tickets are £8.50, £6 concessions, family ticket £20, and are available from Artrix at artrix.co.uk or on 01527 577330.
